Really? Creation Biology?
The evolutionary camp would like you to believe that the origins debate is fueled by Christians who reject science for the Bible. The truth is that biblical creationists accept science as a legitimate method of inquiry into the natural world: what is rejected is the philosophical foundation of naturalism, or the idea that the material world is the only thing that is real. There are also Christians who argue that the Bible is not a science book, so we should let "science" say what it will, and keep the Bible for theological discussions. Two problems arise from that: first, evolutionary biology is happily taking over discussions of morality (e.g., when monkeys share food, that provides insight into human relationships) and other areas of theological province as Christians abdicate more and more to naturalistic philosophies; and, second, nowhere in the Bible does God remove the realm of scientific investigation from Christian purview. Rather, we are instructed to carefully study the natural world, acknowledge and glorify the Creator, and accept the historical account of Creation as Biblical truth (just as Moses and Jesus accepted it as a historical event). Does that mean we know exactly what happened during creation, or in events taking place after that time? God has given us science as a way to investigate the natural world within His framework of truth, so while we still have questions, and different models and theories may be debated, there is no excuse for dismissing what God has, in fact, revealed to us as truth. |
